National Association for the Self-Employed Encourages Consumers to use their Purchasing Power to Support a Record-Breaking Number of Small Businesses

WASHINGTON, D.C. – With every state in the country on track this year to set another year of record-breaking small business startups,  Keith Hall, president and CEO of National Association for the Self-Employed (NASE), the nation's leading advocate and resource for the self-employed and micro-businesses, celebrates Small Business Saturday this weekend by applauding the community’s continuing historic growth.

“The exponential surge in growth of new and existing small businesses over the last few years speaks to the resilience, persistence and determination of America’s smallest business owners who have demonstrated that they overwhelmingly deserve our support this weekend,” said Keith Hall, president and CEO of National Association for the Self-Employed (NASE), the nation's leading advocate and resource for the self-employed and micro-businesses. “Not only have they stepped into their dream of owning their own small business, but also have stepped out of the unemployment line by creating their own job. From Generation Z small business owners launching a dream to those retired Americans starting a second career as their own boss, this Saturday shop local and support America’s small business community.  The millions of solo entrepreneurs, mom-and-pop shops, and gig-economy workers who are all part of this record-breaking growth continue to drive and fuel our nation’s economy. These small businesses represent and exemplify the best of our country’s ingenuity and entrepreneurial spirit.”

According to the Small Business Saturday 2022 Consumer Insights Survey, “The annual Small Business Saturday®—as a retail and community event—is anything but small. In fact, Americans spent $17.9 billion last year. In fact, 72% of shoppers said Small Business Saturday inspires them to shop small and dine at independently-owned restaurants. Two-thirds of shoppers also strongly agreed that they will continue shopping small throughout the rest of the holiday season because of its impact on their local community.” The survey is a product of American Express and the National Federation of Independent Business.

“With the record-number of new small businesses opening this year, they will be joining the ranks of a growing community of over 33 million small businesses who represent the majority of businesses in the country.  Let’s harness America’s purchasing power to blow the lid off spending in recent years. Americans have the muscle to come out and support the small business community along Main Street and show the strength and importance of a community critical to the overall economic health of our nation,” continued Hall.

Hall also reacted to a recent report indicating the employees of small businesses are among the happiest by saying, ““America’s small business owners are finishing out the year incredibly optimistic about the future of their business with their employees happy and satisfied and even more new applicants joining our ranks every day.  2023 is turning out to be another major, record-breaking year on all fronts for our country’s small business community, the lifeblood of our nation’s economy.”

NASE advocates and gives voice to America’s smallest employers, the self-employed and micro-businesses, before our elected leaders in Washington. In addition, NASE serves as a critical resource for new and existing small businesses in their operations. Specifically, NASE offers a robust Growth Grant program – sponsored by AARP, DELL Small Business, and Payanywhere – to Ask The Experts business and tax advice and the NASE Minute video with free business advice online to both members and the public. The association’s goal is to support the small business community to help them to grow and thrive.
