Over 18.1 Million Small Business Applications Over 3 Consecutive Years

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Just six months after the announcement that the United States set a record of new small business applications over the last three consecutive years, the nation hit another record-shattering 18.1 million small business applications. Keith Hall, president and CEO of the National Association for the Self-Employed (NASE),celebrated this today by saying “America’s small business community has never been so powerful, attracting attention and support by policymakers of all political stripes.”

“The nation’s small business boom continues to thrive while also helping to strengthen both our local and national economies,” said Keith Hall, president and CEO of the National Association for the Self-Employed (NASE), the nation’s leading advocate and resource for the self-employed and micro-business community. “This is not only great news for those in our community, but also for the millions of new solo-entrepreneurs joining our ranks for the first time. This just speaks volumes about the resilience, determination, and perseverance of those in the small business community, including the millions of solo entrepreneurs, mom-and-pop shops, and gig-economy workers who are the heartbeat of our nation. Hall was recently featured by MarketWatch about the small business boom offering his expert insight how the right policy priorities along with the economic conditions of why this is happening across the country. In the piece, Hall says:

“’If there was one silver lining from the pandemic, it’s that it made people realize how much they’re able to accomplish from home,’ he said.

“Small-business owners tend to work long hours, Hall said, but if they can do that work flexibly from anywhere, they can often have more family time than if they were working an office job with a long commute.

“In Washington, ‘the voice of small business today is more powerful than it has ever been in my lifetime,’ Hall of the NASE said. ‘No matter which side of the aisle, everyone knows that the single most important economic factor in this country is the growth of small business.’”

NASE expects to release its own survey data on the policy priorities of its membership and the small business community in the coming weeks.

NASE advocates and gives voice to America’s smallest employers, the self-employed and micro-businesses, before our elected leaders in Washington. In addition, NASE serves as a critical resource for new and existing small businesses in their operations. Specifically, NASE offers a robust Growth Grant program – sponsored by AARP, DELL Small Business, and Payanywhere – to Ask The Experts business and tax advice and the NASE Minute video with free business advice online to both members and the public.
