How to Make Sure you are Attracting Top Talent for your Business

What businesses can tend to forget when it comes to recruitment is that it’s a two-way street.  It’s not just the company that needs to be happy with the hire/candidate - the person who is looking for and potentially accepts the job needs to feel that they are in the right environment to thrive. If you are looking to attract some top talent, here are some things to keep in mind.

You Need to Have a Strong Brand Identity

What does your business stand for?  Employees now want to know more about what the core missions and values are of a company before they decide whether or not they would like to be considered for a role.  The digital world allows them to be able to access this information fairly easily these days - or if it isn’t there, this could end up being off-putting for them.  Make your brand messaging clear across any online outlets including your website and social media channels.  Ideally, you should have a brand bible that will be used to keep everything consistent across all platforms.

Your Job Description Needs to be Clear and Accurate

For mid to senior level positions in particular, you need to ensure that you have depicted exactly what you need from your ideal candidate in your job description.  That could save you a lot of time further down the recruitment process.  It makes sure you are attracting the right prospects and that there will be no surprises either end when it comes to the interview or meeting stages.  You should outline clearly everything that is involved in the role, and what’s expected of the candidate.  Are there essential skills or qualifications that are needed?  What are the desired soft skills that you’d be looking for?

You Need to have the Right Incentives in Place

We no longer live in a world where financial incentives are the only ones important to prospective candidates - now people take a whole lot more into consideration.  That’s why you need to take a look at your company overall and make sure you have the right benefits in place to create an appealing culture.  This could be anything from flexible working environments to creating a specific program.  You can outsource this key element to businesses such as zestbenefits.com.  They can create something that’s suitable to your company which wouldn’t only help in the employee acquisition phase but retention too.

Your Recruitment Process Needs to be Strong

A lot of businesses fall down when it comes to their overall recruitment processes.  It could be at the interview stage, or sometimes at the follow up stage. You should have standard protocol for each interview to make sure you are giving everyone a fair shot. This will make it much easier to make a decision at your end and will also minimize the length of time taken for the follow up process.  Too often, employers miss out on ideal candidates because they take too long to follow up with them.  By that stage, they could have received another job offer.  The interview/recruitment process also needs to be explained thoroughly to any potential candidates so they know what to expect.  Make sure the decision making time frame works for them.

If you are in a growth stage of your business, and you are keen to make sure you are attracting the best talent possible - then make sure you take these items into consideration for best results.
